Taiwan Lantern Festival 2016 @ Taoyuan!

It’s the Year of the Monkey and monkeys lanterns are everywhere! The 15th day of the first lunar month is the Lantern Festival, and this year the 2016 Lantern Festival is at Taoyuan, on a site covering 20 hectares right at the High-Speed Rail Station ~ just so convenient for us all!  It lasts from February 22 – March 6.  Yesterday was a national holiday in Taiwan and the weather was great, so what better day to go?! The Old and the New: Sanzhi Presbyterian Church 台灣基督長老教會三芝教會

Last week’s gloriously sunny weather for Chinese New Year meant that everything looked so beautiful! I’ve found 5 small churches in Sanzhi Town, and the biggest is the Sanzhi Presbyterian Church 台灣基督長老教會三芝教會 ~ they’re busy constructing a new church building, along by the river, and it’s looking good so far! Their old building, which is still being used, also looked really good in the sun ~ and so did the view of the Yang-Ming Shan Mountains just along from the church! Chinese New Year 2016

A sombre, sober and subdued Lunar New Year for all of Taiwan. It started with the deadly 6.4 earthquake early on Saturday February 6 in southern Taiwan, which led to the collapse of a number of high-rise buildings in Tainan, including the 17-storey Weiguan Jinlong apartment complex, where over 100 were killed. Electricity and water outages made the New Year even worse for many, and as High-Speed Rail services were cancelled in southern Taiwan, many people were forced to change their travel plans.
