Ju Ming Art Museum 朱銘美術館, Jinshan, Taipei ~ a must-see on a sunny day!

And y’know, it’s really quite an amazing place!  A massive sculpture park set in the hills above Jinshan, just above Dharma Drum Mountain, the famous international Buddhist Centre, and just below all the huge graveyards that are higher up.  Beautiful views down over Jinshan to the sea.  Do check it out! Taiwan’s Glove Puppet Shows 布袋戲

A traditional art that is kept very much alive in Taiwan by lots of mobile glove puppet shows that travel around the country putting on shows outside temples, mainly these days for benefit of the deities in the temples.  This one I came across yesterday outside a small Taoist Temple in Sanzhi had loud speakers relaying the story and 2 puppet masters – but I was the other only person there…. Yes, introducing one of my most delightful former students, Amanda, who spent 2 years of her early life with us at St. James’ Kindergarten, Taichung ~ and she’s now a student of art history at Tainan National University of the Arts.  All grown up and going places! My Kinda Art @ 2 Taipei Exhibitions!

Mostly my kinda art doesn’t appear very often, so it’s quite nice that Taipei has 2 exhibitions on that are actually my kinda art!  Both kinda discovered by chance a few days ago when wandering in the area… One is at the Gallery at Taipei 101, where there’s an exhibition of really fun sculptures by Korean sculptor Kim Gyoungmin, this is one of them! Then just around by Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store on the outside plaza there is an exhibition of very beautiful elephants called Elephant Parade, highlighting and encouraging elephant conservation. St. John’s University Dept of Creative Design 創意設計系 Graduating Students Design Exhibition!

Gotta go, gotta see! Our 4th and final year students in the Dept of Creative Design have a special exhibition of their design projects ~ and they are AMAZING!
