We had a cake today to celebrate Charles’ 86th birthday on December 10, while Christopher celebrated his 60th birthday last month. Celebrating Taiwan’s Double Ninth / Chong-Yang Festival ้‡้™ฝ็ฏ€!

Today is the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, known as Double Ninth Festival or Chong-Yang Festival ้‡้™ฝ็ฏ€ and in Taiwan, it’s a special day for honoring all senior citizens. Yesterday I was in Taichung at St. James’ Church and the Rev. Lily Chang kindly invited me to stay on after the services for their Chong-Yang Festival lunch in a nearby restaurant. All those aged 65 and over were invited to join – and they had a few spare seats, which is how I got to be there too.
