And the first ever wedding reception in our newly-finished-and-about-to-be-opened-next-weekend brand new Advent Church Centre ~YES! 聖約翰49週年校慶 St. John’s University welcomes President Ma Ying-Jeou 馬英九總統!

Yes, welcoming President Ma for the official unveiling of the St. John’s University Zhuo-Yun Building 倬雲樓, and this was THE moment! So today was the big day ~ and the sun was shining ~ YES!  Just look at that blue sky at 8:00 am this morning ~ those in suits were sweltering! 2016 為聖約翰而跑 Running for SJU!

St. John’s University Annual Fun Run ~ and we were there ~ YES! Yesterday afternoon, 3:00 pm, and there we all were, hundreds of students (including all the first years), and maybe 30-40 faculty and staff all being launched forth by SJU President Chen, accompanied by at least 2 drones flying up above ~ while down below we had students dressed as animals, cartoon characters and in all sorts of other fun costumes, and off we set.  Our student fellowship group were kind of mostly in yellow and led by Yu-lin from our chaplaincy staff. 3.5km ~ but it felt … Continue reading 2016 為聖約翰而跑 Running for SJU!

St. John’s University Dept of Creative Design 創意設計系 Graduating Students Design Exhibition!

Gotta go, gotta see! Our 4th and final year students in the Dept of Creative Design have a special exhibition of their design projects ~ and they are AMAZING! So much talent, so much creativity, so much skill!  The students have been working on these projects for the last year ~ and this is the result. ‘A-dan’ is a member of our student fellowship, her project is titled ‘1990’ and full of quirky designs and products, fun ways for today’s young people to remember their 90’s childhoods…. St. John’s University, Taiwan ~ Annual Celebration!

Today is the day!  On this day 49 years ago, April 26, 1967, the Ministry of Education officially notified ‘St. John’s and St. Mary’s Institute of Technology’ SJSMIT, (the original name of St. John’s University, SJU) that they could start to recruit students for their brand new 5-year junior college courses. The school dates its foundation from that day, and many of the original first intake of students are still active in the SJU Alumni Association today. Bishop James C. L. St. John’s University Student Fellowship Sunday

It’s the end of April, and every year St. John’s University holds it annual university celebration day ~ held at this time around the anniversary of the accreditation of the school by the Dept of Education, and the death of the university’s founder, Bishop James C. L. Wong.  He died on April 27, 1970 and is buried under the altar in Advent Church.   Yesterday was the St. John’s University Student Fellowship Sunday, the service was mainly led by the student fellowship members, and offerings go towards that ministry. Happy Easter @ Advent Church!

From darkness to light! Christ is Risen, Alleluia!  耶穌復活了! Our Easter celebrations began with the Easter Vigil at 8:00 pm on Saturday, Easter Eve, with the lighting of the Easter fire, and then the first lighting of candles.  After days of heavy rain, the sun had actually been out all day, and although it was very cold, it was dry, yes!  We were delighted to welcome one of our students involved with our chaplaincy at St. John’s University,  Mei-Han, who was baptised during the service.  The church looked beautiful, the choir were amazing, and it was a very moving and … Continue reading Happy Easter @ Advent Church!

Pouring with rain and with a strong wind as a very late cold front has suddenly arrived in the last day or two bringing with it some horrible weather and a return to winter temperatures ~ hey, we’re used to it by now, but this winter seems far from over, and it’s almost April!
