The Old and the New: Sanzhi Presbyterian Church 台灣基督長老教會三芝教會

Last week’s gloriously sunny weather for Chinese New Year meant that everything looked so beautiful! I’ve found 5 small churches in Sanzhi Town, and the biggest is the Sanzhi Presbyterian Church 台灣基督長老教會三芝教會 ~ they’re busy constructing a new church building, along by the river, and it’s looking good so far! Their old building, which is still being used, also looked really good in the sun ~ and so did the view of the Yang-Ming Shan Mountains just along from the church! Praying for this building project to bring glory to God and renewal of faith for the people! Continue reading The Old and the New: Sanzhi Presbyterian Church 台灣基督長老教會三芝教會

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity @ Taipei

Last night was a very beautiful, very ecumenical Taizé Service for this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, organized by the National Council of Churches of Taiwan (NCCT), and held in 台灣基督長老教會汐止教會 Xizhi Presbyterian Church, on the outskirts of eastern Taipei – and served by the train line to Keelung…. This year’s theme is “Called to proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord” (1 Peter 2:9). Praying for Christian Unity around the world, in Taiwan, and in all our hearts and minds this coming year. Master Chang Ching’s ‘Exquisite Arts’ Exhibition 新開創 – 張敬の精湛藝術邀請展 ~ a big must-see!

From now until January 24, the National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei City is THE place to go!  Not for the changing of the guard, although that’s quite fun if you arrive on the hour like hundreds of tourists do, and like we did yesterday.  But even more fascinating is the Wood Sculpture Exhibition by Master Chang Ching 張敬, it’s STUNNING! Master Chang’s story was published over 10 years ago in English by the Buddhist Tzu-Chi Organization (click here for the article), and it’s fascinating to read ~ he has a great Christian testimony! He’s now nearly 80 and still … Continue reading Master Chang Ching’s ‘Exquisite Arts’ Exhibition 新開創 – 張敬の精湛藝術邀請展 ~ a big must-see!

Penghu 澎湖 sun, sea, sand, sky ~ and such a lovely baby!

A great weekend in Penghu with my most-adaptable (go everywhere, do everything!) visitors Mike and Harriet – visiting good friends Feng-Mei and her family at Xiyu Presbyterian Church ~ my second visit (for the first one last August, check out my blog post here), and this time, no typhoon – instead we had wonderful blue skies and seas the whole time…. yippee! Saw all the sights, swam in the sea, ate all the local delicacies, happened upon a Taiwanese Opera Festival, and joined in the Sunday worship and Sunday School at Xiyu Church…. The highlight was definitely the meals we … Continue reading Penghu 澎湖 sun, sea, sand, sky ~ and such a lovely baby!

鄭啟璋弟兄追思禮拜….RIP 鄭伯伯

49 years!  49 years of praying ~ that truly shows some dedication and perseverance… That’s how long Mrs. Cheng prayed for her husband before he finally decided to become a Christian.  This family sure has an amazing testimony! On Saturday we gathered at Advent Church for the funeral of the man we knew as 鄭伯伯 Mr. (Uncle) Cheng, who died on New Year’s Eve at the age of 90.  His son and family have long been members of our church while Mrs. Cheng always went along to the Presbyterian Church in Tamsui, near their home, and would come with her son … Continue reading 鄭啟璋弟兄追思禮拜….RIP 鄭伯伯
