Kendal, Cumbria is a beautiful town on a sunny day! Happened to be there today, down by the parish church, and along the river where there were tons of seagulls getting fed…. Then for the last 20 minutes I raced up to Kendal Castle and back – it took 7 minutes to run around the top of the castle and in and out of every ruin – and then back down to the town to get to the car before the parking ran out! Every year at the beginning of December, a grand evening is held here in Sedbergh, Cumbria for the official launch of Christmas season, and last night was THE night! All the shops stayed open till 8:00pm or later serving mulled wine, mince pies, sweets and chocolates, many offering discounts to encourage us all to do our Christmas shopping…. Yep, the highest inn in the whole country, Tan Hill Inn, at 1,732 feet (528 m) above sea level ~ and off we went yesterday for lunch, after a sharp frost but in bright sun – yes glorious sun! My first ever visit ~ just how could I have never been there?! Actually located only 28 miles from us here in Sedbergh, via Hawes over the Buttertubs Pass and up from Keld…. and only 26 miles back via Kirkby Stephen… What scenery ~ the top of Wensleydale, Buttertubs, top of Swaledale and then Tan Hill itself ~ and what a destination!
