Happy Easter @ Advent Church!

From darkness to light! Christ is Risen, Alleluia!  耶穌復活了! Our Easter celebrations began with the Easter Vigil at 8:00 pm on Saturday, Easter Eve, with the lighting of the Easter fire, and then the first lighting of candles.  After days of heavy rain, the sun had actually been out all day, and although it was very cold, it was dry, yes!  We were delighted to welcome one of our students involved with our chaplaincy at St. John’s University,  Mei-Han, who was baptised during the service.  The church looked beautiful, the choir were amazing, and it was a very moving and … Continue reading Happy Easter @ Advent Church!

Just Married! Many Congratulations to Yi-Chia 鄒宜家 and Si-Han 陳思翰 on their Wedding Day ~ and it all started in Boston!

Our beloved Teacher Tiger’s big day ~ YES!  And yes, we call her Teacher Tiger (well, after all she was born in the Year of the Tiger!), otherwise she’s known as Yi-Chia 宜家, and in fact that’s what our friends in Boston call her.  Yesterday was a very big day for her and her brand new husband Shawn ~ Si-Han 思翰, and what a lovely couple they are! Pouring with rain and with a strong wind as a very late cold front has suddenly arrived in the last day or two bringing with it some horrible weather and a return to winter temperatures ~ hey, we’re used to it by now, but this winter seems far from over, and it’s almost April! Reconciling the World with God: Holy Week and Easter Reflection

It’s Maundy Thursday, and there’s an air of anticipation in our chaplain’s office here at St. John’s University as our students get ready for the service tonight ~ many have volunteered to take part in the foot-washing, and they’re excited! “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”

The Church of England’s Holy Week and Easter short film of Psalm 22…. “My God, My God why have you forsaken me ?” The words spoken by Jesus on the Cross from Psalm 22 inspired our new JustPray video for Easter. The film follows on from The Lord’s Prayer advert launched by the Church last Christmas which was banned by cinemas for its religious content. The stars of the film have struggled with drug addiction, crime and homelessness on their journey to faith. United Thank Offering UTO Collection 2016

Every Holy Week at Advent Church we collect up all our coins in blue collection boxes ready for our offerings on Maundy Thursday towards The Episcopal Church United Thank Offering (UTO)… This is my collection this morning! The Diocese of Taiwan has received several large grants from UTO in the past, most notably and most recently towards the purchase of a property for St. Stephen’s Church, Keelung….. well worth supporting! 棕枝主日‬ Palm Sunday 2016 @ Advent Church

Palm Sunday 2016 ~ and now the start of Holy Week! Yesterday at Advent Church, a procession with palms around the church stopping for a few seconds at each Station of the Cross, and then a drama of the events of Holy Week during the Gospel reading…. At the end of of the service, our rector Rev. Spring Retreat @ Advent Church

Palm Sunday weekend and ideal for our Spring Retreat, helping us to focus on the coming Holy Week ~ today was the day, with about 30 of us from Advent Church, including quite a number of our fellowship students.  A day retreat, like a ‘Quiet Day’, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, based in one of the conference rooms of St. John’s University, and wonderfully led by Fr. Gino Picca, S. J. 王秉鈞神父 from Holy Family R. C.
