The temperature in Taipei rose to 38.7°C yesterday afternoon, the city’s highest temperature in June the Central Weather Bureau has recorded since it was founded 120 years ago, the bureau said yesterday. And the first ever wedding reception in our newly-finished-and-about-to-be-opened-next-weekend brand new Advent Church Centre ~YES! Just popping by….

It’s summer and yes, the days are getting longer, and with Taiwan’s northern tip so close, and the Fugueijiao Lighthouse newly open to the public since last summer ~ who can resist popping by before it closes at 6:00 pm?! This was the lighthouse yesterday, and in the far distance to the right, you can just make out the shipwrecked container ship that is still there just along the coast….. Looking splendid eh?! Trinity Sunday in Taichung!

A city of colour even on a rainy day! Attended the morning service with the Filipino community, mostly migrant workers, who gather at the Church of the Immaculate Conception every Sunday.  The main mass is at 12 noon, and is always packed out, so they now have a new mass at 10:45 am too – that’s the one I went to.  The priest is a good friend of mine, Fr. Joy from Maryknoll Missioners. And check out that beautiful church minibus, their very own popemobile….. Now just waiting for the pope himself lol! Continue reading Trinity Sunday in Taichung!

We celebrated the 60th anniversary of St. John’s Cathedral last night ~ and what a great celebration it was!  Congratulations to all, and thanks be to Almighty God! And the pièce de résistance, the jewel in the crown of all the celebrations last night must have been the impromptu drum performance by our very esteemed and distinguished Canon Chancellor, Professor Herbert H. P. Ma, who at the grand age of 90 took to the drums with great gusto, and hey presto, had us all charmed and wanting more! A very special day yesterday at the beautiful St. Peter’s Church for the wedding of a very lovely couple, Michael and Hany Lee! The newly-restored church looked stunning, and of course it was a real church family event ~ St. Peter’s excels at being a really close church family!  Michael’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee are devoted members of St. Peter’s, his father is on the church committee, and his mother is chair of St. Peter’s ECW (Episcopal Church Women).  So together with Rev. Mother’s Day @ Advent Church ~ Taiko (豐收擂鼓 Lei-ku) Drum Performance!

We have a new group at Advent Church learning Taiko Drums 豐收擂鼓班 and after only 2 months of lessons, this is their first public performance ~ for today’s Mother’s Day Service at Advent Church! Has to be said that those at this end wished I’d been filming the others at the other end ha ha ~ but it was fun at this end!  I found it impossible to keep up with them the one time I tried ~ so a wonderful performance from them all!
