Special congratulations to Kelvin and his family on his confirmation at St. James’ Church, Taichung yesterday, Pentecost Sunday ~ YES! And as it was Pentecost it was most appropriate that the congregation was all from everywhere ~ including Taiwan, Philippines, Korea, Japan, India, Germany, Malta, UK, USA and maybe more besides – it was a great day indeed! Been away in the UK for 7 months and so much has happened in my absence. Out in the big bad world, as usual more has changed in 7 months in Taiwan than in the UK over the whole previous 3½ years that I’d been away ha ha! In Taiwan, new buildings, new businesses, new roads, new Metro Stations, new everything keeps appearing – but in the case of people, some have left and can never be replaced! Yes we had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday, with a special song from our Advent Church choir ~ and then more special songs and dances from one of our groups who are mostly not church members but meet for singing and dancing on a Sunday afternoon, a kind of outreach ministry of Advent Church. They perform for us several times a year, always beautifully attired, this time Hawaiian style! Carnations are THE flower for Mother’s Day, so the Sunday School children were kept very busy distributing them all…. A big celebration weekend ~ it’s Mother’s Day tomorrow and lots of local schools were holding their annual Sports Day today ~ so off we went to our local elementary school, Xingren, to help them celebrate not only Sports Day, but their 99th birthday. So next year will be a great centenary year ~ 100 coming up! Alumni of all ages were there too, from the just-graduated up to the oldest – in his 90’s! Lots of VIPs, the Mayor of Tamsui, local councilors, community leaders and heads of other elementary schools all put in an appearance.
