Starting Now ~ Community English Class @ St. John’s Cathedral, Taipei!

Yes, a brand new English Class at St. John’s Cathedral for church members and local people, every Thursday afternoon from 3:00 – 4:30 pm, 8 times this semester, and we started yesterday!  Here we all are! This class is partly a result of a request from our new-and-about-to-be-installed dean, Rev. Philip L. F. Lin who spent April to July this year visiting the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Congratulations 何睿恩牧師 Joseph and 何師母 Angel on the birth of baby 何天愛!

Yes, baby Tien-Ai 天愛 has arrived safely in the world, thanks be to God!  She was born on August 4 in Taipei, so she’s 4 weeks old today ~ YES!  She’s the gorgeous brand-new baby daughter and first child of Rev. Joseph Jui-En Ho 何睿恩牧師 and his beautiful wife, Angel (Pei-Yin)! Until July 31, Joseph was vicar of Christ Church, Chungli, Taoyuan. On August 1 he started as vicar of St. Mark’s Church, Pingtung, which is the opposite end of Taiwan from here. That’s quite a big change all in one week ~ a new baby and a new church! English Summer Camp @ Good Shepherd Church, Taipei ~ YES!

4 weeks of fun, 4 weeks of sun and heat (yes, not a typhoon in sight for 4 weeks, most unusual!), 4 weeks of u-biking along the river path from Tamsui to Taipei, and 4 weeks (well almost, Mondays to Thursdays, mornings only) of teaching a class of 20 lovely children, ages 7-10, lots of Bible stories, English and drama, ably assisted by one of our St. John’s University students, Tzu-Yang (Mark), who also traveled miles every day to get there.  Actually he’s just graduated and is awaiting notification of his 4-months military service, so he was free.  He brought along … Continue reading English Summer Camp @ Good Shepherd Church, Taipei ~ YES!

Good Shepherd Church, Taipei 牧愛堂 welcomes Rev. Keith C. C. Lee 李鎮丞牧師 as the new rector!

Another big day at Good Shepherd Church, Taipei! Last Sunday, Good Shepherd Church said goodbye to Rev. Philip Lin 林立峯牧師 and his family as they moved to St. John’s Cathedral, Taipei, and now this Sunday, today, they say a big welcome to their new rector, Rev. Keith Lee 李鎮丞牧師!  Here he is, in the middle, after his 2 services today, still smiling! Yes, today is a big day in the Diocese of Taiwan ~ we have many of our churches saying fond farewells to their clergy as they move on.  This was the scene at Good Shepherd Church today as the church said goodbye to Rev. Round-Taiwan Tour with Nicky and Harriet ~ YES!

Yep, we’ve done a whole circuit of Taiwan this past week ~ ‘n what a beautiful country! Nicky and Harriet, my 2 lovely visitors from one of my CMS Link Churches, St. John’s, Neville’s Cross, Durham, UK, had already been here a week, based in Taipei, and so this was the chance for them to see a little of this beautiful island ~ Ilha Formosa (‘Beautiful Isle’, the name given by Portuguese sailors), otherwise known as….. We celebrated the 60th anniversary of St. John’s Cathedral last night ~ and what a great celebration it was!  Congratulations to all, and thanks be to Almighty God! And the pièce de résistance, the jewel in the crown of all the celebrations last night must have been the impromptu drum performance by our very esteemed and distinguished Canon Chancellor, Professor Herbert H. P. Ma, who at the grand age of 90 took to the drums with great gusto, and hey presto, had us all charmed and wanting more! A very special day yesterday at the beautiful St. Peter’s Church for the wedding of a very lovely couple, Michael and Hany Lee! The newly-restored church looked stunning, and of course it was a real church family event ~ St. Peter’s excels at being a really close church family!  Michael’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee are devoted members of St. Peter’s, his father is on the church committee, and his mother is chair of St. Peter’s ECW (Episcopal Church Women).  So together with Rev. 台灣聖公會台中市聖雅各幼兒園「給夢想一雙翅膀」愛心園遊會 ~ St. James’ Preschool, Taichung, Charity Bazaar 2016!

And this year, even more lovely people came than usual, and lots of smiling VIPs came too ~ here they all are last Saturday at the St. James’ Charity Bazaar! Every year on the Saturday before Mother’s Day weekend, St. James’ Preschool and Language Institute hold a great fiesta, bazaar, fair, extravaganza all rolled into one. And every year they raise a lot of money for charity.  And every year the charity is different.
