Only at Night ~ Sanzhi’s New Bridge!

Yes, we have a new bridge at Sanzhi 三芝 over the Balien River, opened at the end of December.  The bridge goes nowhere other than to a field over the river – and if you only come in the day, you’ll be wondering why we need a new bridge to nowhere.  But come at night, and it is beautiful ~ all those lights change colour – I love it! Taipei MRT: Underwater Office and Coffee Shop in the Clouds!

Passed through Songjiang Nanjing MRT Station in Taipei yesterday ~ this is some of the public art – I love it! The Wikipedia website says this about the Public Art: ‘The theme for the Songshan Line station is “Metropolitan Images of Daily Life” (都會眾生相). It uses four elements (earth, fire, water, wind) to present surreal situations of the combination of city and nature. Bringing in the New Year 2017 on Taiwan’s beautiful east coast @ 台東 Taitung!

Yes, Happy New Year 2017 from Taiwan’s beautiful east coast! After my visit to the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross in Shangwu, Dawu Township, Taitung County on Friday, I stayed on in Taitung and was joined by good friend, Ah-Guan from St. James’ Church, Taichung, and her daughter and dog for a weekend of seeing what’s what in Taitung.  Beautiful sunny hot weather, blue skies, blue sea, and lots of Taiwan Indigenous People singing and dancing! Yehliu Geopark ~ in the sun!

Yes, a rare sunny weekend, YIPPEE! Welcomed Lydia from the UK to visit Advent Church this morning and then to Yehliu Geopark this afternoon, not far from Jinshan ~ in beautiful sunshine!  Lydia even posed by one of the rocks ~ and there were plenty of other people taking plenty of photos everywhere we looked. Clear distant views of the mountains above Keelung – around Jiufen….. And we finished the day with a very late afternoon sunset at Fugueijiao Lighthouse on Taiwan’s northernmost point….. Coming soon ~ the new movie ‘Silence’, all filmed in Taiwan ~ and in the meantime, check out the trailer…. “The official trailer of Hollywood movie SILENCE was released on Wednesday, making many locations around Taiwan seen around the world. Such a great visit to 大禮大同部落 Dali Datong Village, Taroko Gorge, Hualien ~ Home of 頭目達道 Truku Chief Dadao!

What an amazing place, amazing weekend, and what amazing people! Chief Dadao (頭目達道) of the Truku (Taroko) Tribe lives high up on a beautiful plateau, at over 1,100 m in altitude, way up above the steep slopes of the spectacular marble gorge, Taroko Gorge in Hualien on Taiwan’s east coast.  We went there to visit over this past weekend, and here’s us sitting with him on the bench outside his house, with THE view behind us! Taipei Grand Mosque 台北清真寺

Found myself walking past the Taipei Grand Mosque yesterday, on a beautiful sunny morning, and as it was open, popped in to take a look….. The Wikipedia website for Taipei Grand Mosque says it was designed by  Yang Cho-cheng, the famous architect who also designed the Grand Hotel, CKS Memorial, the National Concert Hall and Theater, and plenty of other famous landmarks in Taiwan.  It was inaugurated in 1960.  Quite a history, so do check it out.
