Typhoon Day!

A few days ago the weather maps were showing a row of 3 typhoons all in a line, all in the western Pacific, and all heading in our direction.  The first one, Lin-fa skirted the southern tip of Taiwan a few days ago, and now the second, Chan-Hom is skirting the northern tip of Taiwan.   This map is what it all looks like ~ courtesy of the Taiwan Government Central Weather Bureau.   The third one is actually supposed to head north towards Japan instead of west towards us, but anything is possible in the world of typhoons! Congratulations Pei-Wen and Jun-Yien 王俊諺與曾珮雯婚姻聖禮!

Wedding Day at Advent Church for one of our former students, Pei-Wen and her new husband, Jun-Yien! Pei-Wen was baptized here at Advent Church while she was a student at St. John’s University and was active in the student fellowship.  As she lives locally, she’s continued to come along, and has brought Jun-Yien too.  Today lots of her old friends and classmates came back to celebrate and to help out, including singing a song for the new couple ~ so wonderful to see them, all looking very smart and very cool! Prayers of the People @ General Convention

For the last 10 days, June 25 to July 3, the 78th General Convention of the US-based Episcopal Church has been meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. The Diocese of Taiwan is one of those dioceses present, and Bishop Lai led a group from Taiwan to take part in it. Advent Church Summer Camp 2015 兒童喜樂營!

An amazing non-stop 2 days of fun, friendship, fellowship – and all on the theme of faithfulness….. 今年的主題:「天降信實-Faithfulness」，一個信實的生命是能誠實面對自己，喜愛並接納我原本的樣子，誠實做自己，並與自己、與他人、與自然萬物、與上帝建立信實的關係，成長歷程才不會隨著各種誘惑而迷失方向. Every year for about the last 20 years, Advent Church has held a holiday club / summer camp for local children in the community, run by students from the St. John’s University Chaplaincy Student Fellowship, helped by some of the church youth.  Always held on the first 2 days of the summer holidays – this year July 1 and 2. Introducing Sanzhi 三芝!

New house, new town!  Yep, I’m now living in the town of Sanzhi  三芝, variously spelt Sanzhi, Sanshi, Sanjhih or Sanchih, and just to confuse you further, variously pronounced San-ze or San-jer.  We’re on the NW coast of Taiwan, 5 miles (8 km) north of St. John’s University, and about 3 miles SW of the northern tip of Taiwan, a GREAT location!
