Well here we are, alive to tell the tale.  That was definitely a storm to end all storms.  What a night it was, and then what a day.  24 hours of non-stop torrential rains, almost apocalyptic winds that shook the walls and windows until it felt like the buildings were going to collapse or take off, debris crashing and banging and flying into everything, and a 10 hour power cut. Advent Church Summer Camp 2015 兒童喜樂營!

An amazing non-stop 2 days of fun, friendship, fellowship – and all on the theme of faithfulness….. 今年的主題:「天降信實-Faithfulness」,一個信實的生命是能誠實面對自己,喜愛並接納我原本的樣子,誠實做自己,並與自己、與他人、與自然萬物、與上帝建立信實的關係,成長歷程才不會隨著各種誘惑而迷失方向. Every year for about the last 20 years, Advent Church has held a holiday club / summer camp for local children in the community, run by students from the St. John’s University Chaplaincy Student Fellowship, helped by some of the church youth.  Always held on the first 2 days of the summer holidays – this year July 1 and 2. Welcoming Rev. Joel del Rosario ~ from EDCP to Taipei!

The latest exciting adventure in the ongoing partnership between St. James’ Church, Taichung and the Episcopal Diocese of Central Philippines (EDCP) has been the visit to St. James for the last 2 months of Rev. Joel del Rosario – and these last 3 days on his way back home to the Philippines he had the chance to come to Taipei ~ YES! Fr. Joel was previously in charge of several of the churches in EDCP that have been built with money raised by St. James’ Church since 1998. St. John’s University Farewells Retiring Faculty and Staff 歡送退休人員聚會!

Today St. John’s University said farewell to 6 faculty and staff who are retiring at the end of this academic year, next month in fact ~ and many of them looking far too young to retire!  But several have been here for 25 years, and all are full of plans for what they’re going to do next…. St. John’s University Graduation Day!

Yesterday was a BIG BIG day ~ St. John’s University Graduation 2015 ~ YES! By 10:00am everyone had gathered ~ students, professors, SJU President Chen Jean-Lien, SJU Chair of Trustees, Dr. Cecilia Koo, VIP Guests and Alumni, SJU Chaplain Rev. Lennon Chang, Bishop David J. H. Lai and a whole host of photographers, organizers and of course parents and families ~ including lots of proud grandparents, all armed with bouquets of flowers and balloons.  And even several tiny pet dogs! Comings and Goings….

Been away in the UK for 7 months and so much has happened in my absence.  Out in the big bad world, as usual more has changed in 7 months in Taiwan than in the UK over the whole previous 3½ years that I’d been away ha ha!  In Taiwan, new buildings, new businesses, new roads, new Metro Stations, new everything keeps appearing – but in the case of people, some have left and can never be replaced! Advent Church celebrates Mother’s Day!

Yes we had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday, with a special song from our Advent Church choir ~ and then more special songs and dances from one of our groups who are mostly not church members but meet for singing and dancing on a Sunday afternoon, a kind of outreach ministry of Advent Church.  They perform for us several times a year, always beautifully attired, this time Hawaiian style! Carnations are THE flower for Mother’s Day, so the Sunday School children were kept very busy distributing them all…. 新北市淡水區興仁國民小學 Xingren Elementary School Sports Day!

A big celebration weekend ~ it’s Mother’s Day tomorrow and lots of local schools were holding their annual Sports Day today ~ so off we went to our local elementary school, Xingren, to help them celebrate not only Sports Day, but their 99th birthday.  So next year will be a great centenary year ~ 100 coming up! Alumni of all ages were there too, from the just-graduated up to the oldest – in his 90’s! SJU 愛的團契佈道會 ~ 甦醒 special night!

And a special night it was! St. John’s University Student Fellowship holds a special night of outreach every semester, and last night was it ~ YEAH!
