Just in case you hadn’t noticed ~ my favourite church is of course Advent Church on the campus of St. John’s University, Taiwan, and my favourite stained glass is the one in Advent Church – it’s BEAUTIFUL! Advent Church Community Concert 社區音樂會 2014….

And packed out the church was!  Kids and parents, church members, local people, university staff and students, visitors, and members of the nearby Bunun Indigenous Church ~ all here at Advent Church last night for our annual community concert, always held around the time of the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival… Dancing, singing, performances on trumpet, violin, piano, guitar and xylophone ~ a great atmosphere, and many new friends made ~ all part of our community outreach programme… Only one big splash during the concert when a lady in the dancing group so busy taking photos didn’t see the baptismal pool ankle-deep … Continue reading Advent Church Community Concert 社區音樂會 2014….

The Episcopal Church House of Bishops @ Taiwan ~ Field Trip Day!

And not just any old field trip to any old place, but to visit some of our very own churches in our very own Diocese of Taiwan ~ Yippee! For me starting with getting up to the Grand Hotel at 7:00am, when it’s cooler for walking up all them steps… for orchids and yep, coffee! Congratulations Mo-Huan!

A celebratory meal last dinner hosted by Mo-Huan’s lovely mother, one of our Advent Church members, to congratulate her son on getting into Police College, and to thank those of us who have helped him along the way with his English and Maths for the entrance exam – which 2nd time round he passed with flying colours YES! Mo-Huan starts college in a few weeks time, one of 1,700 new recruits (includes 200 women) in the Police College in Taipei…. many congratulations to him! 溫柔農場 Shining! Advent Church Summer Camp 2014….

The first 2 days of the summer holidays YES! 2 days of 20+ of our university student fellowship and church young people leading the annual Advent Church Summer Camp for 50+ children here at Advent Church ~ fun and games, stories and drama… and a great time was had by all! Year by year, we’re working our way through the Fruits of the Spirit as a theme, and this year is Gentleness…. presented as a gentle strength! Taiwan Episcopal Church 60th Anniversary Celebration Day 台灣聖公會宣教60週年感恩慶典 ~ YES YES YES!

60 years old ~ and in Chinese culture, the 60th birthday is always THE major landmark… Thanks be to Almighty God for his many blessings over the last 60 years, and here’s to the next 60! St. John’s University, Taiwan celebrates 47 years….

聖約翰科技大學在台復校47週年校慶暨創辦人故王長齡主教逝世44週年紀念感恩禮拜 Our annual week of celebrations ~ this year we mark 47 years of SJU in Taiwan, and 44 years since the death of Bishop James C. L. Wong (Bishop of Taiwan 1965-70) who did so much to help establish the school in 1967 ~ today was a special service attended by SJU President Chen and all those who receive scholarships to help them with their studies, plus our SJU Chaplaincy student fellowship who sang in the choir…. 救主復活日 Happy Easter ~哈利路亞! 主已復活!

Alleluia, Christ is Risen!  哈利路亞! 主已復活! Easter celebrations at Advent Church started last night, Easter Eve, with the Easter Vigil – the lighting of the Easter fire and the first half of the service by candlelight, then 4 baptisms and Holy Communion…. All wonderfully led by retired priest, Rev. Michael Liou, who sang the whole service ~ amazing! Despite having no voice only a few days earlier, on the night he was in fine form!
