Chinese New Year 2018!

St. John’s University Chinese New Year Banquet 尾牙 2018!

Yes, Chinese New Year’s coming soon!  The semester is already over at St. John’s University, it finished at the end of last week.  Local schools still have another week or so to go.  Offices stay open for a few more weeks after that.  Then yes, it’s holiday time! The St. John’s University 2018 Wei-Ya  尾牙 Chinese New Year Banquet was held last night at Regalees Hotel, Tamsui – with lots of VIPs and speeches and entertainment and prizes in the lucky draw.  But of course the main attraction was the food.  All ten courses. St. James’ Church, Taichung ~ another big welcome!

St. James’ Church, Taichung is one of the most hospitable churches ever, and when their rector, Rev. Lily Chang and their youth group leader, Chia-Lin heard of a group of youth coming to visit from St. Andrew’s Secondary School, Singapore, they rolled out the red carpet to welcome them!  The ladies of the church cooked up a huge feast of traditional Taiwan food to welcome them, and we had games and lots of fun together, with sharing about the Taiwan Episcopal Church and presentations.  Such a fun evening! Yes, today is a big day in the Diocese of Taiwan ~ we have many of our churches saying fond farewells to their clergy as they move on.  This was the scene at Good Shepherd Church today as the church said goodbye to Rev. A very special day yesterday at the beautiful St. Peter’s Church for the wedding of a very lovely couple, Michael and Hany Lee! The newly-restored church looked stunning, and of course it was a real church family event ~ St. Peter’s excels at being a really close church family!  Michael’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee are devoted members of St. Peter’s, his father is on the church committee, and his mother is chair of St. Peter’s ECW (Episcopal Church Women).  So together with Rev. 聖約翰49週年校慶 St. John’s University welcomes President Ma Ying-Jeou 馬英九總統!

Yes, welcoming President Ma for the official unveiling of the St. John’s University Zhuo-Yun Building 倬雲樓, and this was THE moment! So today was the big day ~ and the sun was shining ~ YES!  Just look at that blue sky at 8:00 am this morning ~ those in suits were sweltering!
