聖方濟安老院開幕慶活動 Grand Opening Day @ St. Francis Care Home, Toucheng, Yilan!

An amazing morning spent at an amazing place, at the Grand Opening Celebrations of St. Francis Care Home 聖方濟安老院 in Toucheng, Yilan County 宜蘭縣頭城鎮 YES! Last Christmas, under the leadership of Rev. Trinity Sunday in Taichung!

A city of colour even on a rainy day! Attended the morning service with the Filipino community, mostly migrant workers, who gather at the Church of the Immaculate Conception every Sunday.  The main mass is at 12 noon, and is always packed out, so they now have a new mass at 10:45 am too – that’s the one I went to.  The priest is a good friend of mine, Fr. Joy from Maryknoll Missioners. And check out that beautiful church minibus, their very own popemobile….. Now just waiting for the pope himself lol! Continue reading Trinity Sunday in Taichung!

And this year, even more lovely people came than usual, and lots of smiling VIPs came too ~ here they all are last Saturday at the St. James’ Charity Bazaar! Every year on the Saturday before Mother’s Day weekend, St. James’ Preschool and Language Institute hold a great fiesta, bazaar, fair, extravaganza all rolled into one. And every year they raise a lot of money for charity.  And every year the charity is different. Spring Retreat @ Advent Church

Palm Sunday weekend and ideal for our Spring Retreat, helping us to focus on the coming Holy Week ~ today was the day, with about 30 of us from Advent Church, including quite a number of our fellowship students.  A day retreat, like a ‘Quiet Day’, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, based in one of the conference rooms of St. John’s University, and wonderfully led by Fr. Gino Picca, S. J. 王秉鈞神父 from Holy Family R. C. Culture Shock.  You’d never believe it.  Yep, for a northerner (that’s me), the south of Taiwan is quite a culture shock ha ha!  Everything works just like in the north, but at a much more stately pace.  Nobody seems to be in a rush to go anywhere.  There’s just as many traffic lights, but hardly any cars or buses or even people waiting at them.  It’s just, so, well, quiet!  And spread out.  In the north, all the old one-storey Japanese houses are now largely gone, replaced by multi-storey apartment blocks, but in the south, they’re still lived in, so … Continue reading True Southern Hospitality @ St. Mark’s Church, Pingtung 台灣聖公會屏東聖馬可堂!

YES! NT$ 340,000 (US$ 10,350) all raised for 宜蘭聖方濟老人長期照護中心 St. Francis Care Home, Yilan!

Incredible!  Thanks be to Almighty God!  It’s done!  This month, St. John’s University and Advent Church have raised a grand total of NT$ 340,000 (US$ 10,350 / £ 6,985) for St. Francis Home  宜蘭聖方濟老人長期照護中心 in Toucheng, Yilan County – way beyond our expectations.  Thanks for everyone who participated!  Here’s our chaplain and rector, Rev. Lennon Chang, receiving the Thanksgiving Certificate yesterday from Sr. Betty in Toucheng R. C. Church ~  God is good! SJU Christmas Charity Bazaar 聖約翰科技大學 聖誕義賣!

Our annual St. John’s University Christmas Charity Bazaar ~ on at lunchtime yesterday YEAH!  All run by the SJU Chaplaincy Team, Advent Church staff and church members, students past and present, supported by everyone ~ and all in a good cause. This year the cause is St. Francis’ Care Home in Yilan 宜蘭聖方濟老人長期照護中心‬, run by the Daughters of Charity sisters, who are completely dedicated to serving the poor.  One of the sisters, Sr. Betty,  came here last week along with their administrator to share with us about their care home ministry – here they are, with Rev.
