Mr. Chen Ming-Bang and his lovely wife are members of Advent Church, they have a home just up the coast from here, and whenever they’re here, they take part in all our services and activities.  Mr. Chen has had a very distinguished career in the civil service, including as Founding Director of the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office.  In his retirement, Mr. Chen has not sat idly by, but rather has put his artistic talents to great use and has produced over 60 paintings, which yesterday were put on … Continue reading 陳明邦感恩畫展 Mr. Chen Ming-Bang Thanksgiving Art Exhibition

Prayers of the People @ General Convention

For the last 10 days, June 25 to July 3, the 78th General Convention of the US-based Episcopal Church has been meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. The Diocese of Taiwan is one of those dioceses present, and Bishop Lai led a group from Taiwan to take part in it. Last year during Advent, many of us took part in a highly successful social media project – like a global Advent Calendar – called Advent Word, where we posted a photo a day on an Advent theme, organized by SSJE, the Society of St. John the Evangelist.  I loved … Continue reading Prayers of the People @ General Convention

The Episcopal Church House of Bishops @ Taiwan ~ Final Day!

Final day maybe, but very busy ~ non-stop action all day!  In fact I got to the Grand Hotel soon after 7:00am and didn’t go out of those doors till 10:30pm – about how long it takes to fly to London lol! But a wonderful day it was, of course, starting with a closing Eucharist, led by Bishop Lai in English and Chinese, and a great sermon from Chaplain Simón Bautista challenging everyone to travel light as they go home.  But seems our lovely bishops and spouses have received so many gifts from our churches in Taiwan and friends they’ve … Continue reading The Episcopal Church House of Bishops @ Taiwan ~ Final Day!

The Episcopal Church House of Bishops @ Taiwan ~ Field Trip Day!

For me starting with getting up to the Grand Hotel at 7:00am, when it’s cooler for walking up all them steps… for orchids and yep, coffee! Today was the day for taking all our lovely guests from the Episcopal Church House of Bishops to visit our churches ~ 4 groups to 4 places; 2 smaller groups – one to Keelung to visit Trinity Church and St. Stephens’ Church and one to … Continue reading The Episcopal Church House of Bishops @ Taiwan ~ Field Trip Day!

The Episcopal Church House of Bishops @ Taiwan ~ Day 1!

Today was THE big day ~ the official start of the Episcopal Church House of Bishops meeting in Taiwan ~ and there we were on the welcome desk, this time outside the main meeting room, welcoming all those who had arrived late last night ~ and despite mega-long flights for most, well they were just so happy to be here! After the Eucharist, there were group photos outside in front of the Grand Hotel ~ but there was sooooooo many people in each photo that I couldn’t fit ’em all in ha ha – so you’ll have to wait for … Continue reading The Episcopal Church House of Bishops @ Taiwan ~ Day 1!

NCCT @ Taipei Holy Trinity Orthodox Church….

My first ever visit to the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Taipei ~ for an NCCT (National Council of Churches of Taiwan) meeting….. The NCCT is quite unique in that RC, Orthodox and Protestant Churches are all represented ~ ‘n it don’t happen like that in many countries!  So happens that for these 2 years, 2013-14, Bishop Lai is the NCCT chairperson, and we’re part of the team…. Holy Trinity is quite some church, on the 4th floor of a huge apartment block…. And the view’s quite some view!  And so of course, the meeting was quite some meeting!
