And they’ve brought the sun with them too ~ ah, at last, the weather is great! The Diocese of Taiwan has had a companion link with the Diocese of Osaka since 2004, and so there’s been regular church group visits to and fro for different occasions. From the Anglican Church of Korea: Welcoming Rev. Stephen Sikyung Yoo!

A big welcome to Taiwan to Rev. Stephen Sikyung Yoo, his first ever visit to Taiwan! Rev. Stephen Sikyung Yoo is the Provincial Secretary of the Anglican Church of Korea, and was invited here earlier this week for a conference of East Asia leaders hosted by the Taiwan Presbyterian Church.  Before becoming Provincial Secretary, Stephen worked at the Seoul Anglican Cathedral, and before that he and his family spent 10 years in Japan as missionaries from the Korean Anglican Church; Stephen was chaplain of Rikkyo (St. Paul’s) University, Tokyo, the largest Anglican University in Japan, with over 20,000 students. Welcoming Rev. Canon Edmund Der 謝博文法政牧師 and Mrs. Margaret Der!

A great day yesterday for us all at St. John’s University welcoming Rev. Canon Edmund Der 謝博文法政牧師 and his wife Margaret, Mrs. Chee Ming Lee! In the old days, St. John’s University was known as ‘St. John’s and St. Mary’s Institute of Technology’ (SJSMIT), and Edmund was Vice-President from 1972-76.  Their memories include living on the campus – with a garden full of chickens! Farewelling our lovely Bangalore friends!

A wonderful visit from my good Bangalore friends  ~ Harrison, Nancy and Allen ~ on Saturday.  They came specially from Taichung to say goodbye! Earlier this year on Pentecost Sunday, June 24, we celebrated their older son, Kelvin being confirmed at St. James’ Church, Taichung, and also said goodbye to him as he left to start his university studies in their home country of India (see that blog post here).  And it sounds like he’s having a great time! The latest exciting adventure in the ongoing partnership between St. James’ Church, Taichung and the Episcopal Diocese of Central Philippines (EDCP) has been the visit to St. James for the last 2 months of Rev. Joel del Rosario – and these last 3 days on his way back home to the Philippines he had the chance to come to Taipei ~ YES! Fr. A non-stop 3 days at St. James’ Church, Taichung – it’s always non-stop action!  Straight off the flight from Penghu, and in at the deep end!  Mike and Harriet, my always-ready-for-action visitors, spending the last few days of their trip visiting all my old friends and colleagues at St. James.  And what a great time we had! Penghu 澎湖 sun, sea, sand, sky ~ and such a lovely baby!

A great weekend in Penghu with my most-adaptable (go everywhere, do everything!) visitors Mike and Harriet – visiting good friends Feng-Mei and her family at Xiyu Presbyterian Church ~ my second visit (for the first one last August, check out my blog post here), and this time, no typhoon – instead we had wonderful blue skies and seas the whole time…. yippee! Saw all the sights, swam in the sea, ate all the local delicacies, happened upon a Taiwanese Opera Festival, and joined in the Sunday worship and Sunday School at Xiyu Church…. 2014 Diocese of Taiwan Youth Camp ~ YES!

And what a great time we all had! 3 days, 2 nights with 30+ youth, 10+ youth leaders and 5+ clergy and soon-to-be clergy and theological students, and us – that’s me and my lovely visitors from the UK, Harriet and her dad Mike…. The 2014 Diocese of Taiwan Youth Camp was held in the Little Ding-Dong Science Park (great name eh?!) in Hsinchu County (great views of Hsinchu City and the sea) last week from July 9-11….. and we were there ~YES! 3 days of non-stop action, including paint-balling, abseiling, high-rope walking, snow-sliding, barbecue, games, fun, worship and many thought-provoking discussions … Continue reading 2014 Diocese of Taiwan Youth Camp ~ YES!
