The Church of England says it is “disappointed and bewildered” by the refusal of leading UK cinemas to show an advert featuring the Lord’s Prayer.

  1. Catherine, I must say that I agree with this decision. The UK and her commonwealth is a very multicultural place, comprising a great many religions. The Lord’s Prayer would surely give offence to a great many non-Christians – not to mention atheists. We need to be sensitive to the fact that to many, Christmas has become a purely secular event, and to those of other faith it has no significance at all. Ideally, all religions should be given equal airtime. This is surely a logistical impossibility. I firmly support keeping religion off the secular air, but that just means we should celebrate it all the more noisily and welcomingly. Advertising is a tacky way to spread the Word anyway.
