Advent Word, Day 14 ‘wait’

Day 14: #wait #等候 Saturday December 12 ‘We can actually bring into being what we are waiting for, what we envision for the future. The future Kingdom breaks into the present through our work to bring about justice and peace and well-being for all people. So Christian waiting does not need to be passive; it can be active, creative–animated by Christ’s love; guided by Christ’s creative wisdom and Spirit’. The world is waiting ~ for ‎Star Wars , coming everywhere very soon! Thornham Parva Retable ~ Stunning!

St. Mary’s Church, Thornham Parva in deepest Suffolk is just about everybody’s favorite UK church!  Very small, very quaint, very thatched and very very old.  It also happens to be one of my supporting churches and the people are wonderful ~ I visited them earlier this year (see my blog post here) ~ the salt of the earth! The church is also very famous for the retable that hangs above the altar, apparently the largest surviving altar-piece from the English Middle Ages.  St. Catherine is second left, holding her wheel ~ so I bought lots of postcards of the retable to give to … Continue reading Thornham Parva Retable ~ Stunning!

Advent Word, Day 13 ‘shine’

Day 13: #shine #發光 Friday December 11 ‘Jesus tells us that: ‘You are the light of the world.” It is with the lamp of our lives lived well that we will herald the coming of the Lord when he returns at the end of time. So how brightly do your lamps burn? How brightly does your life shine?’ 耶穌告訴我們:「你是世上的光。」到那末了,當主再來的時候,人們能夾道歡呼祂的到來,乃是憑著光明的生命之燈。試問,你的燈是否熠熠發光?你的生命是否光彩照人呢? Yes, my most favourite CMS Asia Director ever!  IN Taiwan.  NOW!  This very moment. YES!  I’m so so happy!  Even though he’s no longer my CMS boss, hey, he’s here ~ YIPPEE! Chye Ann’s been to Taiwan many many times over the years to see us – when I was at St. James’ Church, Taichung, and now at St. John’s University.  He’s always been so supportive and encouraging of me being here, gets on really well with Bishop Lai and all the clergy, and is always so interested in all that’s going on in the diocese.  And when he preaches, … Continue reading From Singapore to Taiwan ~ welcoming Rev. Welcoming Rev. Canon Edmund Der 謝博文法政牧師 and Mrs. Margaret Der!

A great day yesterday for us all at St. John’s University welcoming Rev. Canon Edmund Der 謝博文法政牧師 and his wife Margaret, Mrs. Chee Ming Lee! In the old days, St. John’s University was known as ‘St. John’s and St. Mary’s Institute of Technology’ (SJSMIT), and Edmund was Vice-President from 1972-76.  Their memories include living on the campus – with a garden full of chickens! The Ders were last here 2 years ago for the 50th anniversary celebrations of Good Shepherd Church, Taipei, and where they were in charge from 1966-74.  And now they are back again full of life, energy and … Continue reading Welcoming Rev.
