Tour de Taiwan 2016 ~ Go Go Go!

Today is the second stage of the Tour de Taiwan, a round-Taiwan international cycle race that started yesterday in Taipei. It’s a bit grey out there this morning, but probably ideal for cycling.  Today they’re doing 114.67 km, from Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf around the northern coast, up Yang-Ming Shan a little, and finishing at Baishawan Visitors Centre around lunch time. Advent Church: a special welcome to Bishop and Mrs. Lily Lai!

Today Bishop Lai and Mrs. Lily Lai came to Advent Church ~ a big welcome!  3 people were confirmed, 2 of them are members of our choir, one of whom started coming as a result of attending our community English class.   Today was also a very special day for the Tan family ~ Tan Mama was taken ill in early January and in a sort of coma for about a month, but she’s gradually improved, and today was able to come to church for the first time with all the family, and receive communion and a blessing from Bishop Lai. … Continue reading Advent Church: a special welcome to Bishop and Mrs. Lily Lai!

A Big Welcome to: 台灣聖公會第56屆教區年議會 The Diocese of Taiwan 56th Annual Convention!

Yes, such a happening event that even St. John’s Cathedral Sunday School children came to visit us ~ on the bus, on a Saturday morning, and as part of their weekend camp ~ YES! From the Diocese of Osaka, Japan ~ a big welcome to Taiwan!

And they’ve brought the sun with them too ~ ah, at last, the weather is great! The Diocese of Taiwan has had a companion link with the Diocese of Osaka since 2004, and so there’s been regular church group visits to and fro for different occasions. Taiwan Lantern Festival 2016 @ Taoyuan!

It’s the Year of the Monkey and monkeys lanterns are everywhere! The 15th day of the first lunar month is the Lantern Festival, and this year the 2016 Lantern Festival is at Taoyuan, on a site covering 20 hectares right at the High-Speed Rail Station ~ just so convenient for us all!  It lasts from February 22 – March 6.  Yesterday was a national holiday in Taiwan and the weather was great, so what better day to go?! From the Anglican Church of Korea: Welcoming Rev. Stephen Sikyung Yoo!

A big welcome to Taiwan to Rev. Stephen Sikyung Yoo, his first ever visit to Taiwan! Rev. Stephen Sikyung Yoo is the Provincial Secretary of the Anglican Church of Korea, and was invited here earlier this week for a conference of East Asia leaders hosted by the Taiwan Presbyterian Church.  Before becoming Provincial Secretary, Stephen worked at the Seoul Anglican Cathedral, and before that he and his family spent 10 years in Japan as missionaries from the Korean Anglican Church; Stephen was chaplain of Rikkyo (St. Paul’s) University, Tokyo, the largest Anglican University in Japan, with over 20,000 students.
