Yep, we’ve done a whole circuit of Taiwan this past week ~ ‘n what a beautiful country! Nicky and Harriet, my 2 lovely visitors from one of my CMS Link Churches, St. John’s, Neville’s Cross, Durham, UK, had already been here a week, based in Taipei, and so this was the chance for them to see a little of this beautiful island ~ Ilha Formosa (‘Beautiful Isle’, the name given by Portuguese sailors), otherwise known as….. St. John’s Cathedral, Taipei celebrates 60 years! 台灣聖公會聖約翰座堂建堂60週年感恩禮拜!

We celebrated the 60th anniversary of St. John’s Cathedral last night ~ and what a great celebration it was!  Congratulations to all, and thanks be to Almighty God! And the pièce de résistance, the jewel in the crown of all the celebrations last night must have been the impromptu drum performance by our very esteemed and distinguished Canon Chancellor, Professor Herbert H. P. Ma, who at the grand age of 90 took to the drums with great gusto, and hey presto, had us all charmed and wanting more! Here is Professor Ma with his family, and in action on the drums! … Continue reading St. John’s Cathedral, Taipei celebrates 60 years! 台灣聖公會聖約翰座堂建堂60週年感恩禮拜!

A very special day yesterday at the beautiful St. Peter’s Church for the wedding of a very lovely couple, Michael and Hany Lee! The newly-restored church looked stunning, and of course it was a real church family event ~ St. Peter’s excels at being a really close church family!  Michael’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee are devoted members of St. Peter’s, his father is on the church committee, and his mother is chair of St. Peter’s ECW (Episcopal Church Women).  So together with Rev. Simon Tsou and all their friends in the church, they planned and organized all the wedding themselves, … Continue reading Congratulations to Michael, Hany, the Lee family and all at St. Peter’s Church, Chiayi!

True Southern Hospitality @ St. Mark’s Church, Pingtung 台灣聖公會屏東聖馬可堂!

Culture Shock.  You’d never believe it.  Yep, for a northerner (that’s me), the south of Taiwan is quite a culture shock ha ha!  Everything works just like in the north, but at a much more stately pace.  Nobody seems to be in a rush to go anywhere.  There’s just as many traffic lights, but hardly any cars or buses or even people waiting at them.  It’s just, so, well, quiet!  And spread out.  In the north, all the old one-storey Japanese houses are now largely gone, replaced by multi-storey apartment blocks, but in the south, they’re still lived in, so … Continue reading True Southern Hospitality @ St. Mark’s Church, Pingtung 台灣聖公會屏東聖馬可堂!
