The first 2 days of the summer holidays YES! 2 days of 20+ of our university student fellowship and church young people leading the annual Advent Church Summer Camp for 50+ children here at Advent Church ~ fun and games, stories and drama… and a great time was had by all! Well it was definitely quite a week! Accompanied Christina and Matisse on their first few days in Taiwan, firstly in Taichung at St. James’ Church and Preschool ~ where amazing welcomes awaited them, St. James at its best! And then to Taipei for a nonstop 2 days, accompanied by student Jenny… Friday ~ St. John’s University, Beitou Hot Springs, Taipei 101, tea with Bishop Lai, Tamsui Old Street for massage and ice-cream… Saturday ~ swimming in the sea at Baishawan, Taipei City – Presidential Palace, C.K.S. Welcoming Christina and Matisse to Taiwan!
Such a great partnership between St. James’ Preschool, Taichung and Cambridge-Ellis School (CES) in Boston, USA means that every summer we have the honour of welcoming 2 of their lovely teachers to join us for 2 months… So off I went to the airport last night to welcome the CES teachers for summer 2014, Christina and Matisse, fresh off a flight from London via Dubai… both smiling away! It’s the end of the school year and exams loom large for many… For our students at St. John’s University classes, exams and graduation are all over, and students all vacated the campus this past weekend. Many are sad to leave. It’s soooooo quiet without them all! For our neighbouring junior-high school, the 9th grade students have already graduated and the younger ones are deep in exams, as they are all over the country… Tragically this past weekend, one of those just-graduated 9th grade students from our neighbouring school was killed in a road accident. Yep, 50 years of mission in Keelung! Yesterday was Trinity Sunday, and there were big celebrations in Trinity Church, Keelung with a Thanksgiving Service at 3:00pm, followed by a grand banquet dinner. And to mark this very special event, the church has been upgraded to parish status – a big decision and start of a new era YES!
