Sad News: RIP Advent Church Cat….
Today’s official announcement on Advent Church Facebook Page reads: 今早牧師發現降臨堂的貓(Organ)已平安的離去,感謝主牠在降臨堂盡中職守9年,共抓了9隻老鼠,維護電風琴的壽命 Our Advent Church cat was found dead on the steps of the church office this morning, apparently from natural causes. We thank God for her faithful service to Advent Church over the last 9 years catching mice and so preserving the life of the church electronic organ. The cats’ name was Organ, after the instrument she was protecting ~ and she was extremely popular on the campus with the students and in the church….. September is fast approaching, the month when the Diocese of Taiwan hosts the Episcopal Church House of Bishops Autumn Meeting ~ so our 2 great friends, Canon Peter Ng and Lori Ionnitiu from New York have been here all this week in preparation… Hence visits to 4 churches in the diocese to see how preparations are coming along for the visit of the bishops and spouses…. 60 years old ~ and in Chinese culture, the 60th birthday is always THE major landmark… Thanks be to Almighty God for his many blessings over the last 60 years, and here’s to the next 60! Actually, the day started at 2:20am (yep, it’s true) with a massive huge thunderstorm that brought torrential rain, thunder and lightning for the next 3 hours ~ the end of all sleep for the rest of the night! St. John’s University, Taiwan celebrates 47 years….
聖約翰科技大學在台復校47週年校慶暨創辦人故王長齡主教逝世44週年紀念感恩禮拜 Our annual week of celebrations ~ this year we mark 47 years of SJU in Taiwan, and 44 years since the death of Bishop James C. L. Wong (Bishop of Taiwan 1965-70) who did so much to help establish the school in 1967 ~ today was a special service attended by SJU President Chen and all those who receive scholarships to help them with their studies, plus our SJU Chaplaincy student fellowship who sang in the choir…. Alleluia, Christ is Risen! 哈利路亞! 主已復活! Easter celebrations at Advent Church started last night, Easter Eve, with the Easter Vigil – the lighting of the Easter fire and the first half of the service by candlelight, then 4 baptisms and Holy Communion…. All wonderfully led by retired priest, Rev. Michael Liou, who sang the whole service ~ amazing! Despite having no voice only a few days earlier, on the night he was in fine form! Easter Eve on Qixing Mountain 七星山 ~ Us ‘n the boys!
This morning up bright and early to take a group of lovely SJU students, all boys, plus Shu-Jing, one of our SJU chaplaincy staff – all of them on their first ever visit to Qixing Mountain, the highest in the Yang-Ming Shan Mountains….. Foggy and full of sulphur smoke from the fumaroles – all added to the atmosphere – great weather for walking in! Most appropriate for Easter Eve as we wait for the celebrations to start later tonight…. The T-shirts are ready, all 1,000 of them, YA! The Taiwan Episcopal Church celebrates its 60th anniversary this year ~ the big celebration will be on Saturday April 26 in Taichung…. The T-shirts, with a specially designed logo in honor of the occasion and to be worn on the day are now ready ~ the logo designed by church members of Christ Church, Chung-Li, and the T-shirts made by our very own Tan Shirt Company.
