The first week of our Advent Church Children’s Summer School ~ running all summer, all day, Mondays to Thursdays, with a mix of Bible classes, homework, arts and crafts, games, computer classes etc etc, and all run by 3 of our students with the help of church members and clergy, and being held in our new church centre ~ so do please pray for them all! Round-Taiwan Tour with Nicky and Harriet ~ YES!
Yep, we’ve done a whole circuit of Taiwan this past week ~ ‘n what a beautiful country! Nicky and Harriet, my 2 lovely visitors from one of my CMS Link Churches, St. John’s, Neville’s Cross, Durham, UK, had already been here a week, based in Taipei, and so this was the chance for them to see a little of this beautiful island ~ Ilha Formosa (‘Beautiful Isle’, the name given by Portuguese sailors), otherwise known as….. And not a dull moment since they arrived either ~ the two of them are just so hilarious, it’s non-stop entertainment all day long! Harriet was here in Taiwan with her dad, Mike 2 years ago (see that blog post here) just after finishing her GCSE’s, and now she’s just done her A Levels and waiting for results, so hey, what a great opportunity to come back ‘n visit Taiwan! You’d never believe that anyone could have so much fun and laughter on a summer camp, and see so many smiling faces on all the children, when the theme of the summer camp is – guess what? Potentially the world’s totally least attractive and least interesting theme for a summer camp ever! Particularly when the key elements of a summer camp are always fun, fun and more fun! Summer Holidays a-coming!
Today is the last day of school for all government schools in Taiwan ~ YES! Tomorrow is July 1, and July means summer holidays! Pray for Advent Church Children’s Summer Camp (Holiday Club) tomorrow Friday July 1 and Saturday July 2 ~ being led by our students, who are very busy in preparation! Very very busy! 合歡西北峰 Hehuanshan North (3,422m) and West (3,145m) Peaks ~ must see, must do!
AND we lived to tell the tale ~ and all still smiling, just! Can’t believe I’ve never been to Hehuanshan ever before, because it’s just, oh so famous! It’s Taiwan’s highest road, linking west and east coasts, and gets heavy snow in winter ~ so it’s become a major tourist destination especially for families wanting to show their children some real snow. And in summer the place is full of flowers, and it’s lovely and cool. End result is horrendous traffic jams all day every day. Advent Church Centre Moving In Day!
Not just a day, more like Moving In Week with the students helping on Thursday….. Then more students helping on Friday, and then on Saturday, anyone available was welcomed to Advent Church to sort out, clean up, throw out and move in! Since the old kitchen was demolished and the construction started 2 years ago, all the kitchen stuff and musical instruments etc have been in storage in the back of the church during that time.
