Taipei’s Amazing Upside-Down House @ Huashan 1914 Creative Park!
Yes, everything is upside-down and it’s really amazing. I totally love it! But so does everyone else, ha ha! So the first time I went, at Lantern Festival a few weeks ago, there was a 2-hour queue to get in….. and then the second time I went, a few days ago, there was hardly anyone, and the queue was 10 minutes! It’s wonderful! The Upside-Down House is at Huashan 1914 Creative Park (華山1914文化創意產業園區), Taipei’s old winery dating from the Japanese era ~ first producing sake and ginseng wines, and breeding moth orchids, then it moved into production of rice wines, liquors and … Continue reading Taipei’s Amazing Upside-Down House @ Huashan 1914 Creative Park!
Bowling her way around the world ~ welcoming Catherine to Taiwan!
Yes, a very big big welcome to my good-friend-with-the-same-name, Catherine! We met in Dodoma, Tanzania many years ago when she was there with her family through the New Zealand Church Mission Society NZCMS. Now she’s retired in Tauranga, New Zealand and a member of Holy Trinity Church ~ where there’s lots of outreach among the Chinese community, so the first time Catherine came to Taiwan 6 years ago was actually with her Taiwan friend Shu, who took her to visit lots of wonderful places in Taiwan, and she spent a few days then with me too. Ah, great memories! Now Catherine’s back in Taiwan … Continue reading Bowling her way around the world ~ welcoming Catherine to Taiwan!
Happy Easter @ Advent Church!
From darkness to light! Christ is Risen, Alleluia! 耶穌復活了! Our Easter celebrations began with the Easter Vigil at 8:00 pm on Saturday, Easter Eve, with the lighting of the Easter fire, and then the first lighting of candles. After days of heavy rain, the sun had actually been out all day, and although it was very cold, it was dry, yes! We were delighted to welcome one of our students involved with our chaplaincy at St. John’s University, Mei-Han, who was baptised during the service. The church looked beautiful, the choir were amazing, and it was a very moving and … Continue reading Happy Easter @ Advent Church!
Just Married! Many Congratulations to Yi-Chia 鄒宜家 and Si-Han 陳思翰 on their Wedding Day ~ and it all started in Boston!
Our beloved Teacher Tiger’s big day ~ YES! Good Friday 受難日@ Advent Church
A few highlights of our lunchtime service at Advent Church today…. The sermon took the words of John 18: 37-38… “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 彼拉多問:「真理是甚麼?」Pilate asked, ‘What is truth?” ‘真理'(zhēnlĭ) ‘Truth’ ~ the Chinese characters … Continue reading Good Friday 受難日@ Advent Church
Maundy Thursday 設立聖餐日@ Advent Church
Pouring with rain and with a strong wind as a very late cold front has suddenly arrived in the last day or two bringing with it some horrible weather and a return to winter temperatures ~ hey, we’re used to it by now, but this winter seems far from over, and it’s almost April! But as you’ll see from the photos below, some of our hardy students are still walking around in T-shirts saying they can’t understand what all the fuss is about! Our annual Maundy Thursday service was last night, and Thursday evening is also the evening when our … Continue reading Maundy Thursday 設立聖餐日@ Advent Church
Reconciling the World with God: Holy Week and Easter Reflection
It’s Maundy Thursday, and there’s an air of anticipation in our chaplain’s office here at St. John’s University as our students get ready for the service tonight ~ many have volunteered to take part in the foot-washing, and they’re excited! Excitement in Holy Week?! OK, it’s also the birthday of the leader of the student fellowship, and they’re all trying to keep their plans secret, but he knows something’s afoot and, well, we’ll just wait and see what happens! While I was in the UK last year, I was given a copy of the CMS publication, ‘365 Days of Yes’, … Continue reading Reconciling the World with God: Holy Week and Easter Reflection
“My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”
The Church of England’s Holy Week and Easter short film of Psalm 22…. “My God, My God why have you forsaken me ?” The words spoken by Jesus on the Cross from Psalm 22 inspired our new JustPray video for Easter. The film follows on from The Lord’s Prayer advert launched by the Church last Christmas which was banned by cinemas for its religious content. The stars of the film have struggled with drug addiction, crime and homelessness on their journey to faith. Find out more about their stories here: http://www.justpray.uk/Psalm%2022/ Visit http://www.justpray.uk to learn more about prayer and to share your … Continue reading “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”
