United Thank Offering UTO Collection 2016

Every Holy Week at Advent Church we collect up all our coins in blue collection boxes ready for our offerings on Maundy Thursday towards The Episcopal Church United Thank Offering (UTO)… This is my collection this morning! The Diocese of Taiwan has received several large grants from UTO in the past, most notably and most recently towards the purchase of a property for St. Stephen’s Church, Keelung….. well worth supporting! 棕枝主日‬ Palm Sunday 2016 @ Advent Church

Palm Sunday 2016 ~ and now the start of Holy Week! Yesterday at Advent Church, a procession with palms around the church stopping for a few seconds at each Station of the Cross, and then a drama of the events of Holy Week during the Gospel reading…. At the end of of the service, our rector Rev. Lennon Chang encouraged to do less of 3 things and more of 3 others during this coming Holy Week ~ less talking, less eating and less watching TV, and more confessing of our sins, more praying, more reading the Bible….. So wishing y’all … Continue reading 棕枝主日‬ Palm Sunday 2016 @ Advent Church

Spring Retreat @ Advent Church

Palm Sunday weekend and ideal for our Spring Retreat, helping us to focus on the coming Holy Week ~ today was the day, with about 30 of us from Advent Church, including quite a number of our fellowship students.  A day retreat, like a ‘Quiet Day’, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, based in one of the conference rooms of St. John’s University, and wonderfully led by Fr. Gino Picca, S. J. 王秉鈞神父 from Holy Family R. C. Church, Taipei.  Such a lovely friendly person!  He was ordained in Taipei in 1969, but first came to Taiwan from Italy in 1964 … Continue reading Spring Retreat @ Advent Church

True Southern Hospitality @ St. Mark’s Church, Pingtung 台灣聖公會屏東聖馬可堂!

Tour de Taiwan 2016 ~ Go Go Go!

Today is the second stage of the Tour de Taiwan, a round-Taiwan international cycle race that started yesterday in Taipei. It’s a bit grey out there this morning, but probably ideal for cycling.  Today they’re doing 114.67 km, from Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf around the northern coast, up Yang-Ming Shan a little, and finishing at Baishawan Visitors Centre around lunch time. Much excitement outside St. John’s University this morning as a whole crowd of students and staff gathered to cheer the cyclists on their way, we had flags, a big drum and lion dancers too!  The procession of course started with … Continue reading Tour de Taiwan 2016 ~ Go Go Go!
