Holy Week & Easter 2025 @ St. John’s Cathedral, Taipei, Taiwan ❤️

A few photos of St. John’s Cathedral, Taipei, Taiwan, during Holy Week and Easter 2025…

We started Holy Week on Sunday, April 13, Palm Sunday – with an English service and then a Chinese service, and a Palm Sunday procession around the block in between. Fortunately, the rain stayed away, but it was the start of a hot and muggy week in Taipei, phew!

On April 17, Maundy Thursday, we had a Holy Communion Service, remembering the Last Supper, led by Dean Philip Lin…

After the service, there was the ‘stripping of the altar’ and covering the cross with a black cloth – it’s much harder than it looks!

On April 18, Good Friday, we had a lunchtime service…

On April 19, Easter Saturday (Holy Saturday), Bishop Lennon Yuan-Rung Chang was at the cathedral for the Easter Vigil at 7:30 pm, starting with the lighting of the Easter fire. Later we had baptisms, confirmations and Holy Communion, with beautiful musical performances during the service – it all lasted until 9:50 pm, then we had lots of food, which went on to 11:00 pm, when there was a massive thunderstorm and torrential rain!

The next day was Easter Sunday, April 20: Christ is risen, Alleluia!

Easter Sunday was a special day of celebration, with an English service followed by potluck brunch and special April birthday cake, also a Chinese service, followed by special lunch and more cake, and then an Easter party, while the Sunday School and youth went to the MRT Station to hand out packets of coffee and Easter eggs!
