Our 20th year of holding a charity bazaar at Christmas for St. John’s University and Advent Church ~ and today was the day! Supermaster and his Superfriends were in action last night at last ~ YES!  After 2 long months of rehearsals and preparation, their moment in the spotlight finally arrived ~ and what a great moment it was!   A whole evening of non-stop action, colour, noise, music, dancing and singing ~ and it was wonderful! Advent 2 @ St. John’s University 2016!

It’s the second week of Advent and so to our second walkabout today to all the offices and departments of St. John’s University to light the 2 candles on the Advent wreath, also to have a short Bible reading, sing a verse of ‘Joy to the World’ and wish everyone a Merry Christmas’, finishing at the President’s office this afternoon.  A few photos…. Advent @ St. John’s University 2016!

Every Advent, the chaplaincy team with some of our students go on a walkabout around St. John’s University, once a week for the 4 weeks of Advent, visiting every main office and department, lighting the appropriate candle(s) on the Advent wreath, and holding a short time of prayer.  Today was the first walkabout of this Advent, and today we prayed for every faculty and staff by name according to which office they are attached to. St. John’s University Coming of Age Ceremony (成年禮) 2016!

Another November, another Coming of Age Ceremony at St. John’s University for all our first year university students, over 800 of them!  Smartly dressed in their SJU blue ties and white shirts, and accompanied by their tutors, faculty, our new SJU President Peter Ay, SJU Alumni and about 100 parents, the students all arrived at 3:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon for our annual event.  As you will see, the preparations took much time and a lot of experimentation – especially to get those ties looking good! 新北市淡水區興仁國小創校100週年慶祝會 ~ XingRen Elementary School, Tamsui celebrates 100 years!

Many congratulations to our local elementary school, XingRen 新北市淡水區興仁國小 on celebrating their centenary today, with beautiful sunny skies and temps of over 30 ºC! St. John’s University and Advent Church are in the XingRen Elementary School catchment area, and we have a really good relationship with the school ~ the principal, teachers, staff, children and parents are all our good friends, and there’s lots going on ~ here’s some of our friends on the school welcome desk this morning! St. John’s University 2016 Opening Service ~ At Last!

Yes, we’re very late ~ delayed by the typhoon! Every semester we have an opening service for St. John’s University, held in Advent Church, and always on the second Wednesday of the new term. But this year, the original date of Wednesday September 28 saw us hit by Typhoon Megi ~ all classes and work were cancelled. Last Sunday was an auspicious lucky day in the Chinese calendar, so there were lots of weddings being held all over Taiwan.  It was the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, Chongyang Festival, which is also Senior Citizens Day, so there were many activities going on for older people as well as weddings. Freshers Week @ St. John’s University!

It’s that time of the year again, and we’re pleased to say we have well over 700 bright-eyed and bushy-tailed first-year students enrolled for St. John’s University for the coming school year, which officially starts on Monday September 19, after Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. 100+ of them are actually enrolled in the junior college program of St. John’s University, meaning they’re 15 years old, and opting first for 5-year junior college rather than senior high school ~ I’m so pleased that I met one, Jia-Yun who I recognized from my English Classes at our neighboring junior high school, Xian-Xiao!
