An octagonal house ~ just how cool is that?!

The Anglesey Toll Houses web page says:

‘Thomas Telford designed and supervised the building of the Menai Suspension Bridge, and the road from Holyhead on Anglesey to London. The bridge took from 1818 – 1826 to build. As a means of recuperating some of the money there were five toll gates, each with a toll house, that were erected at approximately five mile intervals between the Menai Suspension Bridge and Holyhead.’

So happens that my good friends in Anglesey have one of ’em, in Gwalchmai, and beautiful it is indeed…..

Just spent these last 2 days on Anglesey, had a wonderful tour of the whole island!  Great hospitality and wonderful welcome, but as it was cold and a bit dull, had a day off from photos….

Until this morning that is, when needing petrol, found myself in the village with Europe’s longest place name, Llanfair­pwllgwyngyll­gogery­chwyrn­drobwll­llan­tysilio­gogo­goch. It’s quite some mouthful. The full name is on the train station ~ and there’s trains going to Holyhead and Birmingham…

Great place, Anglesey, really hope it won’t be 25 years before I come again!
